Six Flags Qiddiya City – Centralized Lighting Control System
Park-Wide Centralized Lighting Control Network for a Vision 2030 Flagship Theme Park.
Six Flags Qiddiya City represents a landmark development within Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, positioned as a flagship entertainment destination near Riyadh. The theme park spans multiple themed zones across mountainous terrain and incorporates 28 major attractions, including record-breaking rides such as Falcon’s Flight, with lighting infrastructure playing a critical role in guest experience, safety, and thematic storytelling.
Oasis Enterprises delivered the design, integration, and commissioning of a scalable, park-wide lighting control network. It can support dynamic programming, real-time monitoring, and future expansion, engineered to align with international theme park standards.
Key elements of the solution include:
- A distributed yet centrally managed lighting control architecture built on DMX512-A, sACN, and RDM protocols, using ETC-based control processors and network gateways segmented across rides, pathways, facades, area development, retail, and F&B zones
- A redundant fiber-optic network backbone for low-latency, fault-tolerant communication, integrated with time servers and astronomical clocks for automated dusk/dawn scheduling
- Intelligent, distributed power controls with real-time monitoring of voltage, current, and system health, engineered for load balancing and compliance with IEC and local Saudi electrical standards
- Dynamic and architectural lighting integration, including pixel-controlled fixtures and lighting sequences synchronized with park events and ride operations
- A centralized control room built around the ETC Paradigm platform, providing real-time system status reporting and integration with the park’s Building Management System
- Full system commissioning, including control rack termination and testing, customized lighting scene development, stress testing, and failover validation
- Comprehensive operator training, as-built documentation, and post-handover technical support during the initial operational phase
A key engineering challenge was integrating lighting fixtures sourced from multiple vendors into a single, standardized control environment, addressed through open DMX/sACN protocols and rigorous Factory and Site Acceptance Testing. Layered control logic, override hierarchies for safety and emergency functions, and astronomical-data synchronization ensured the system could support both daily park operations and large-scale special events simultaneously.
The completed system delivers centralized control of 100% of park lighting from a single control room, improved energy efficiency through automated scheduling, and dynamic, synchronized lighting that enhances the park’s immersive themed environments. LightTouch LTE, the project’s lighting design consultant, commended the Oasis commissioning team’s technical diligence in resolving signal integrity and multi-vendor interoperability challenges to deliver a reliable, scalable, park-wide lighting network.
